What degree would I need to be accepted into the CIA or NSA?
Can you answer bosedley's question about degrees?:
When I go to college, I am planning on getting a political science or business degree. I imagine that a political science degree would go farther than a business degree would when applying to the CIA, but I can't think of what other degrees would help.

Languages might be good; especially Arabic, Farsi and Urdu.
NSA likes really talented mathematicians and computer scientists.
The old style Ivy League CIA agent might have majored in History. Analysts who know nuclear physics, chemistry, or microbiology are very useful to the CIA.
Frankly, I don't see Business or Poli Sci being all that compelling.
A degree in one of the hard sciences such as Chemistry, physics or engineering would be helpful.
Not so much a degree is needed
?
Military training is a real good head start in getting into either
.
Both are very selective as to who they let in to even fill out an application
that any one will actually look at
.
If you get my idea
.
The schooling that will be needed is dependent upon the field you chose to peruse
.
And each CIA ad NSA have different studies that they like their people to peruse and at colleges of their choice not one you like
.
The NSA is the most difficult to even get an application to be accepted to be reviewed
.
Both are of select people of very high ratings in the skills they possess
The NSA being the most demanding of any governmental position to apply for
A CIA applicant is one of the few ways that an applicant will be even considered for a possession
.
Join the Marine corps for 4 years taking security as your speck is a good stater
.
Basically they have many types of jobs and need many types of people.
You couldn't go wrong with a Criminal Justice degree either.
Good luck and thank you for serving your country.
The price for freedom is eternal vigilance, from enemies without and within.
Hello, i did some research for you and came up with a pretty good answer to your question. You are expected to meet the same employment standards as permanent employees. Applicants must be US citizens and should have a strong academic record (3.0 GPA or better). Foreign language skills, previous international residency and military experience are pluses. Outstanding interpersonal skills, the ability to write clearly and accurately, and a strong interest in foreign affairs are necessary. As part of the hiring process, you must successfully complete medical and polygraph examinations as well as a background investigation. That's mostly for the CIA. As for the NSA, well it depends what career you would like. Knowing different languages would help and being good at mathematics would also help.
The degree requirement is really a cape for the real desired qualifications their HR managers are sent after which are native foreign language, and experience from military or federal service. The CIA elects to use hiring authorities, and this means black & white is real not worth its ink on the requirements.
The CIA does not hire college kids at least not for the fun jobs, and can you blame them do you want to put your life in the hands of some one who has never been shot some one before?
If you get a BS you could get a job but with out experience good luck!
