Is accreditation important?Answered By Devon Turnhill, Editor Accreditation of learning institutions is important because it ensures that the school itself is a licensed and legitimate academic institution, that the faculty are trained and are experts in their fields of study. At the same time, it ensures that the degrees and programs are valid and not a scam. It guarantees that the school's programs and degree offerings are at par with the standards of education and the demands of the professional, working world. Accreditation allows for quality control of the services' of the institution to its students. It makes sure that the school offers the necessary training, expertise, knowledge and facilities needed by the student. Accreditation is also valuable to a student applying for government loans and scholarships as the government awards such financial aids to students of accredited schools and universities. In other cases, a student may want to transfer to a new school or university. If the previous institution is not accredited, the new school may not credit the courses taken by the student in his/her previous school. Accreditation is essential because it serves as a basis for a school whether to recognize course credits taken by their transferee students. Most employers also prefer their employees to come from accredited institutions, especially when considering them for promotion or for high-level positions. keywords: Degree | Degrees | College | University | BA | BS | Bachelors | Diploma | Certificate | Accreditation
