How do I choose a business school?

Answered By Devon Turnhill, Editor

It's not enough that you look at what the ads say. It's not even enough that they're a high profile school. The first consideration is that the school offers the program you want or are interested in. Many business schools have established their reputations in specific business programs. So if you're interested in marketing, choose the schools known for their good marketing programs. The point is, their program should match your needs and goals. Of course, include in your considerations other factors like tuition, placement rates, scholarships, and others.

A school's reputation precedes them. Ask around possible employers what schools they prefer their employees to come from. Some companies and employers may have a bias or a special preference towards one or two business school based on the training, the curriculum and the working attitude its students. Check the school's track record. A good business school does not only have many graduates, but these graduates should also have done successfully well in their internship and employment.

Another consideration is the network and connections of the school with the industry and the business world. If the school is affiliated with reputable companies in the industry, then it means that the student is assured of good internship training and an extensive network which may prove to be useful in his career. Other considerations would include the faculty who should be experts in their fields, updated facilities of the school, student support and teaching methods, which should be a balance between theories and practical application.
