By Kathie Stillow

Chemistry majors arent the only students who will need organic chemistry online college courses. Many science majors find these courses are part of science degrees. Organic chemistry distance learning courses are offered by many universities to help students fulfill these requirements. Enrollment in these courses is often low, making it economically feasible for schools to offer them through distance learning.

The curriculum in chemistry programs is intensive and demanding. You will need to have sufficient time to spend studying to be successful in these programs. Setting a study schedule and organizing time is important in all distance learning, but its particularly important in organic chemistry online college courses. Some universities require students to spend some time in the laboratory on campus in certain organic chemistry courses.

Typical organic chemistry online college courses program requires one full year of organic chemistry, along with one year of general chemistry and two years of mathematics. Other majors, such as science or nursing, may only require one or two courses in organic chemistry. These are generally more basic courses that are easier to study independently.

Because organic chemistry courses are upper level courses, credits are often not transferable to other institutions. For this reason, classes should be taken at through the institution that will be granting your degree. Some institutions will accept the credits only if you have passed a standard exam in organic chemistry. Its important to keep these factors in mind when choosing organic chemistry online college courses.
